Safe disposal of a child car seat

You should get rid of child car seats that are more than 10 years old, have damaged or frayed straps or cracks in the body of the seat. Make sure that they are not able to be used by anybody else.

Unsafe child car seats should be destroyed in such a way that they are not able to be used by others. To dispose of old or unsafe seats:

  • Cut the straps and remove the harness
  • Remove all padded covering from the shell
  • Use your local council's household clean-up service.
